Apart from focusing on the price of villas there are a lot of other considerations which must be balanced in order to find suitable self catering accommodation on the Costa Tropical.

One of the main considerations may be the number of stairs if you or anyone in your group has mobility problems or you are bringing a baby in a pram. Most apartment buildings have lifts but villas typically do not. One of the features that makes this area distinctive along the southern coast of Spain is that the mountains continue all the way to the coast. The villas are usually built on the side of a hill and have excellent views but it is unusual to find a villa without stairs. Usually there will be a manageable number of ten or so stairs but some do have over twenty – which still should not cause any problems for the vast majority of visitors. If you think that access may be a problem for you and it is not obvious from the photos please ask the owners when you make your enquiry.

There are small communities scattered along the coast in small developments such as Atalaya, Las Palomas, San Antonio, Alfamar, Fuentes de Almunecar all having their own individual styles some being mainly or exclusively villas while others are dedicated to apartments and townhouses. One thing that they have in common is that they are at least a few minutes drive from the nearest supermarkets.

Driving, to make the most out of your holiday it is best if you have access to a car which will give you an opportunity to explore the area. There is a good coastal bus service but if you wish to venture beyond the towns or leave the main road there is very limited public transportation. Most visitors find driving here is fairly easy and to rent a car for the week is often cheaper than your taxi from and to the airport.

Renting cars, it is best to book something ahead of time and often it is best to try to avoid some of the more popular companies as not only is the service less personal but if you arrive at the airport at a peak time in summer you could be at the end of a long queue of customers waiting for over an hour just to pick up your car and start your holiday.
