Salobrena is located about six miles (9km) east of Almunecar and 3 miles (4km) west of Motril (a typical Spanish working town), and sits on the Costa Tropical coast directly south of Granada (and being the first coastal town on the main route to the coast from inland cities such as Jaen and Cordoba). As a result it is an important tourist destination for Spanish holiday makers, many of whom own or rent apartments in Salobrena’s beach area during the summer. With a large influx of tourists in the summer Salobrena which is usually quiet and sleepy for 9 months of the year to a lively and busy Spanish holiday resort.

Salobrena is only 45 minutes from the historic city of Granada home of the famous Alhambra Palace, recently a contender for one of the 7 Wonders of the Modern World, and about an hours drive from Malaga. Both Malaga and Granada have international airports. Just south of Granada there are the highest mountain peaks in Spain, the Sierra Nevada which provide Europe’s most southerly ski slopes and are just an hour’s drive from the coast.
