Motril Location

Located in the Spanish region of Andalucia on the Costa Tropical. This is the biggest town on the Costa with a thriving commercial, fishing and leisure port. Situated an hour and a half’s drive east of Malaga International Airport it is also within easy reach of the magnificent Sierra Nevada mountain range, Motril is an ideal base for exploring the many delights of the Andalucian coastline and hinterland.

You’ll find Motril midway between the resorts of Malaga to the west and Almeria to the east. Nestling at the foothills of the Sierra Lujar mountains, Motril lies at the heart of the Costa Tropical which is one of the most lush and productive agricultural areas of Spain.

Arriving from Malaga continue along the coast road (N340) past La Herradura, Almunecar and Salobrena. At some point in the future the caostal motorway will be completed making the journey time from Malaga probably no more than an hour – but at least until 2010 you need to leave the motorway at La Herradura.

From Granada there is a forty or fifty minute drive past the Sierra Nevada mountains and down to the coast. When you reach the N340 head east (left) and within five minutes you will arrive at Motril town which is to the left.

If you are heading for the port, golf course area (Los Moriscos) and beach rental accommodation in Motril and are arriving from

A) Malaga you can leave the N340 coastal road at the Granada roundabout – which is just after you pass Salobrena and drive over the bridge which cross the (often) dry river bed of Rio Guadalafeo, turning right towards the sea.

B) Granada just continue straight ahead (towards the sea) when you reach the roundabout for the N340

there is a turn off on the right to the golf course and beach almost immediately after you join the road to Motril Port. If you continue along the road to the port you will pass various garages and packaging areas for fruit and a small industrial type estate before arriving at the port. You can still arrive at the beaches and golf course by turning right at the roundabout near the port entrance and driving along the coast.
