La Herradura Places to Visit
La Herradura is a relaxing seaside town which has grown up around a small seaside community and makes a good base for exploring both the Costa Tropical and the Costa del Sol including the popular reighbouring town of Nerja. However, most people who come here tend to be attracted by the beaches and lack of extensive commercialisation and development rather than tourist attractions within the town itself.
In La Herradura there are old narrow pedestrian streets which wind up through the old town and a long flat promenade along the beachfront of the town. On the edge of the town there is the protected parkland which merges with the headland at Cerro Gordo where there is a Moorish watch tower and a restaurant.
The area provides several fascinating local walks with fabulous panoramic views west to Malaga and east to Salobreña. There is a wide variety of wildlife in the open park area and the residential area including mountain goats, deer and wild boar.
Just to the east of the town on the farside of Punta de la Mona there is the beautiful Marina del Este yachting harbour.
In addition to the nearby town of Nerja there are the towns of Almunecar and Salobrena along the coast to the east which are within easy reach as well as the list of places to visit provided on the Costa Tropical information.
Almunecar (which La Herradura is a part of) has a well informed tourist office in the area of Playa San Cristobal on the west side of the town.
