Almunecar Things to Do
If you want a beak from relaxing at your holiday apartment or rental villa in Almunecar there are lots of things to do and activities to participate in. Some of the things to do when renting in Almunecar have been covered and if you have already visited the castle and other places listed on our page Almunecar Places to Visit you can spend at least a day if not two in Granada and the Alhambra Palace, visit the Alpujarras, go skiing in the Sierra Nevada (just over one hour by car) in the winter, visit the caves in Nerja, spend a day at the western sets in Almeria – see the page Costa Tropical Information for more information on these.
In addition there are other local coastal towns to visit – such as La Herradura and Salobrena which while still being very Spanish and laid back have their own distinct feel to them. Salobrena sitting on the side of a large rock which rises vertically out of a surrounding flat sea of sugar cane is particularly memorable. You can find more information about these towns using the menu above.
Flamenco
Assuming there are no festivals, fiestas or special events the best place to see flamenco performances and enjoy an evening meal is at Venta Luciano a few minutes drive inland from Salobrena
Waterpark (Aquatropic)
A few hundred meters to the left (east) when you are on the main beach just below the center of Almunecar there is a waterpark which provides a good day out for the whole family but is particularly popular with the kids. As you walk towards Playa Velilla it is difficult to miss the tall slides on the beach between the road and the sea.
Aquanoche
At night the waterpark reopens (sometime around midnight – but is usually almost deserted until close to 1 am!) as a nightclub which can be a lot of fun, of course for safety reasons the water features are
Scuba Diving
Located just beyond the western
Horse riding
Above the area of Taramay on the hillside overlooking Almunecar there is a small riding ranch where you can hire horses for a few hours to go on a treck around the hillsides close to Salobrena
Shopping
Around the narrow cobbled pedestrian streets there are lots of small boutiques selling hand made gifts, textiles, clothes, jewelry, shoes and handbags.
Kite surfing
Off the beaches of Velilla and between Cotobro and San Cristobal there are often groups of kite surfers who whizz along some distance off-shore.
Hire a yacht
At Marina de Este just a few minutes along the coast there is the opportunity to charter a yacht for the day, with a fully catered meal.
