Almunecar Location

Almunecar is the most tourist oriented of the three main coastal towns on the Costa Tropical, and is located midway between La Herradura and Salobrena. There is easy access along the coast road to the town which is about 60 minutes from Malaga and its international airport and 50 minutes from Granada which also has international routes. The Costa Tropical is part of the province of Granada in the region of Andalucia between the famous Costa del Sol and Almeria.

Travelling from Malaga the motorway now passes Nerja (where until 2007 it terminatred) and goes all the way to La Herradura, just a ten minute drive from center of Almunecar. In the future the motorway will be extended to Salobrena, with an exit for Almunecar. Alternatively arriving from Granada there is a motorway for the first half of the journey and a new motorway to the coast is under construction, which will make the journey faster in the future. When you arrive at the coast between Motril and Salobrena you need to head East (right) following the Signs to Salobrena and Almunecar. Assuming you arrive in day light the distinctive rock on which Salobrena is built so be easily visible as you reach the coast.

The easiest way of arriving in Almunecar is to hire a car at the airport, there are taxis which should cost in the region of 100 euros and 80 euros respectively from the airports of Almunecar and Granada. There are also regular bus services along the coast from both these cities but no direct service from the airport. As you will find a car to be essential for some of the properties as well as to properly explore the area we would advise renting a car which for an entire week should cost no more than the airport taxis!
