Almunecar Holiday Rentals – Tips

Whilst thinking of restaurant tips in Almunecar on the Costa Tropical yesterday I should have mentioned another restaurant. At about this time Saturday evening I was sat on the table next to Almunecar’s mayor who was dressed in a shirt with black and white stripes (as colur combination once worn by prisoners and a combination that some would like to see him wear on a daily basis!) He was sat on a table of 10 all having a good time with wine flowing – no sign of the financial crisis which he recently declared – but in all fairness I left before I had a chance to see who paid the bill. I resisted the opportunity to ask about the situation regarding the new underground car parks as he manages to skillfully dodge any and all questions including Martin’s most recent attempt on behalf of the local Seaside Gazette.

However, if you are looking for some sophisticated Oriental food in Almunecar then this restaurant – Restaurante Asiática Sheng – which appears to have the mayors vote is worth a visit. It is unlike other local Chinese restaurants as it offers a broad range of Asiatic cuisine which in addition to Chinese includes Thai, Vietnamese, Malaysian and they used to do Japanese but I must admit not being able to remember seeing it on the menu yesterday. The menu is extensive though and has a menu of the day as well as several preset menus (for 2 and more) starting at 16 euros. In addition the decor is modern and stylish, neither Spanish or Asian it is contemporary. Some locals and visitors rave about the food and it was good and the fish (we both had Thai was both tasty and plentiful – although not as good as I remember when it first opened about 4 years ago!

The restaurant is located near where the friday market takes place and located on the  corner at the end of the road nearest the sports field. The actual address is Calle Larache 1,  if you find the Mac Donalds and continue along the raod passing a  Lidl supermarket and another “typical” Chinese restaurant with a temple style entrance it is on the following and final corner.
